Ethereum Mining Guide Step-By-Step (Update for 2018)

Ethereum Mining

Ethereum Mining is the process of mining Ether.

Today you’re going to see how to mine ethereum.

(Step-By-Step Guide)

ethereum mining

Mining is a computationally intensive work that requires a lot of processing power and time.

It is the process of mining Ether. Simply put, mining Ether equals securing the network which in turn ensures verified computation.

By mining ethereum we got some amount of ETH as a reward. Official Website of Ethereum.

I’ll show you mining for both the cards AMD & NVidia.

I’ll walk you through the step-by-step process for eth mining.

Step #1: We need a ethereum wallet.

I m going to use Jaxx wallet. In Jaxx wallet, there are lots of other coins too which we can use for storage of coins.

Download Jaxx then install it, here it will looks like this:

jaxx wallet ethereum

We need this because we want eth address. As you can see in the image there is a eth address.

Step #2: We need miner to mine the ETH

There are different types of miner which are as follows:

(Above links is for both GPU cards, AMD & NVIDIA)

I’m going to use Claymore Miner.

Claymore miner

Download the latest updated one, you will find by seeing the dates.

I use windows operating system, so I choose the windows one.

If you are Linux user, then don’t worry the process is same in both.

Step #3: Now we need a pool

There are different website where can mine our ethereum.

(Above links is for both GPU cards, AMD & NVIDIA)

I use a nanopool, because it is easy to mine there.

But I’m going to show you both process. Some of you might prefer Ethminer or some will prefer Nanopool.

First, we look for Nanopool.

Go to the Jaxx wallet -> click on ETH -> “Copy” the eth address

Jaxx eth wallet address

Go to Nanopool website

Click on overview

Config your sepc

“Paste” the ethereum address.

Ethereum Nanopool

Nanopool config

Then click on “Generate”.

It will download the zip file.

Actual configuration

We have two zip files with us. One zip file from claymore and another from nanopool.

Extract both the zip files.

Extract Claymore

Then go to “claymore_config_nanopool” folder, from there copy the “start.bat” file.

copy start nanopool

Then go to “claymore_Dual_….” folder, paste the “start.bat” file there.

copy start file

Double click on “Start.bat” file then your mining will start.

This was the process for nanopool website.

Second, we look for Ethminer

This process is very simple.

Just Goto “claymore_Dual_….” Folder, create new file and rename that as “start.bat”.

Remember extension is “.bat”

In that start.bat file copy this

EthDcrMiner64.exe -epool -ewal 0xb4b187d95f210c665db25f2ec8531c95c920ff4d -epsw x -mode 1 -ftime 10

Save the file and run.

There are different server, so make changes as your specifications. Just you have to change the server name. Like if you want to mine in US server then config will be

EthDcrMiner64.exe -epool us1.ethermine.or:5555 -ewal 0xb4b187d95f210c665db25f2ec8531c95c920ff4d -epsw x -mode 1 -ftime 10

Choose your mining server:

Asia  Europe  US East  US West
Stratum Port  4444  4444  4444  4444
Alt. Stratum Port  14444  14444  14444  14444
SSL Port  5555  5555  5555  5555
Username  Your Ethereum Address  Your Ethereum Address  Your Ethereum Address  Your Ethereum Address
Password  Leave empty  Leave empty  Leave empty  Leave empty

So that’s the steps for eth mining.

This how we can mine ethereum coin.

If you want video demonstrate here is the youtube video:

Ethereum mining with AMD & NVIDIA with Windows 10

Eth coin is most profitable coin to mine today. It gives 2$ in 1080 ti, if you have Mining rig for ethereum then you are going to be rich.

After mining ethereum you can sell it in exchange like BinanceBittrexPoloniex, etc. There are lots of exchange where ethereum is listed. So, you don’t have to worry about selling eth.

1. Is mining Ethereum still profitable?

YES, mining Eth is profitable now.

Currently for NVidia 1080ti card it gives 2$ per day.

Ethereum is going to switch to a proof-of-stake framework in future, which means Ether mining algorithm will no longer be relevant. This will be the reason for increase in Ethereum price.

2. What is Ethereun?

Ethereum is a decentralized platform that runs smart contracts: applications that run exactly as programmed without any possibility of downtime, censorship, fraud or third-party interference.

It has the second largest market cap after Bitcoin. See top Cryptocurrencies by Market Capitalization

It has gained massive growth in the last year with over 230% as you can see below:

3. What is ethereum mining?

For each block of transactions, miners apply their computational power to solve the mathematical puzzle.

In simple words:

Ethereum Mining is the process of mining Ether.

You can mine this at home also. Just you need is space where you can put your mining rig.

4. Types of mining hardware?

There are two types of mining hardware: CPUs and GPUs. GPUs gives a higher hash rate, whereas CPUs give low hash rate.

There is one more mining hardware called ASICs. Good thing is ASICs is not available for eth mining.

How much to Invest in Ethereum Mining Rig

You must be wondering which ethereum mining rig/GPU mining rig I use. Well I use Nvidia GPU 1070 & 1070 ti mining rig. And I got decent amount of money per month, I sell the mining coin when it spikes. After selling the coin I hold that in bitcoin, once bitcoin spikes then I sell it. By doing this I get more money.

  1. Hello,

    I have a rig with Gigabyte 1070ti, Gigabyte 1080, and Palit 1080.

When mining ZEC, I get around 490 sol for Palit 1080 and Gigabye 1070ti, and 540 for Gigabyte 1080.
I have just tried to mine ETH, and with ethlargement pill, I get better results for Palit cards:

    Gigabyte 1070 ti – 29 Mhz
    Gigabyte 1080 – 35 Mhz
    Palit 1080 – 37 Mhz

Do you have any idea why?

    1. Yes its depend on overclocking of your cards.
For Palit 1080 card you just overclocked more than Gigabyte 1080, that’s why you are getting more Mhz in palit card.
Just try to overclock Gigabyte, so you can get more Mhz.
